June 2016 - Renovations and Ben's Mission Call

Thursday, July 7

This was late at night on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 when I came home from Texas for Alex's wedding. We left early the next morning to catch a flight to Japan to attend the mission president seminar with the Asia North Area presidency.    I got home to this sight, after the airlines lost one of my bags.  I got home late, we are on our way, now, to Japan for the mission  president seminar.

We were able to sleep in our own bed, but the bathrooms upstairs are not useable. We use the shower in the downstairs bathroom in the storage room. So weird! The smell in the house is gross since there are not toilets in place to cover the sewer pipes.

Ben now has drawers underneath his bathroom sink!  Ben still has that older yellow tub in his bathroom tub and is precious in Korea!

When I first came home from Texas I looked around the house to observe the renovations being done. I was frustrated with the floor tile, it wasn¹t even one of the two choices that we gave to the FM manager, not even in the color scheme! So the manager told them to tile again, on top of what they just put down which they put on top of the old! They did not budget enough money for tile removal so they just add on top of existing(on the floor so the countertop/sink is now a LOT lower can sit down on the counter without even jumping up)(the showers are now smaller/tighter).  This bathroom now has drawers underneath the sink! And the sink area is tiled rather than carpeted.  Remodeling is nice when it is all done. It just took weeks longer than planned with TONS of dust and grit(which Ken was allergic to developing hives on his back).

We were in the two weeks of hiking zone conferences, crazy busy time for us. Ben was able to announce his mission call at the beginning of one of our zone conferences. The missionaries have been so excited for Ben in his preparation, receiving, and send off for his mission.  Just after Ben called Dad and told us, he must have RAN down the mountain to get back as quickly as he did. Plus, we were still waiting for late missionaries. So Ben was able to stand in front of the Changwon zone and tell them for himself, his exciting news!  Sister George had a fun game going with all of our missionaries, guessing where they each thought he would be going to serve his mission. In fact, right before Ben read his call to them you could hear one of the sister missionaries holler out “Korea”.
