Preparing for Transfers!!

Tuesday, August 25

After the fireside from last week the investigator wanted to perform her Traditional Crane Dance for us so everybody cleared away the tables and chairs and watched as she did this special number for us. It is a cultural traditional dance that has been performed for hundreds of years. She represents the bird the crane? funny thing that there is a picture of a crane and a crane dancer on the wall of the elementary school near our house. Today is the first time that we notice them on the wall.

Passing by a fire station you can see that the emergency phone number to call is 119. I saw a police car with large numbers painted on the back window: 112. So I guess that is the phone number for the police.

During interviews this past week the missionaries were good about doing planks, push ups, and wall sits with me. But this was a fun workout to see!

With practice Ben got better. It was kind of embarrassing trying to hula hoop with a bunch of older people looking at us, and in a small space. Oh well! We had fun!

We walked down the street (through the tunnel) and further down the road before going up onto the mountain. We found the area where we took pictures with Niki in the Fall (Fall colors). There were exercise stations and Badminton courts/nets so we had some fun playing Badminton with the equipment we brought with us. The hula hoops were at the exercise stations, that had many older people on the machines.

Dad and I had a wonderful 30th anniversary! I made a chocolate cake (recipe on the back of the Hershey’s Baking cocoa box). I made a chocolate mousse filling, then topped it with a chocolate ganache. YUM! The beautiful flower arrangement was given to me by a woman in BangEojin. Yesterday we attended their branch conference, with Dad speaking in Sacrament Meeting and also in the third hour combined RS/Priesthood meeting. I spoke briefly during the combine meeting. We were given a corsage/boutonnière to wear. Travel time/distance away and many meetings/setting apart of missionaries/temple recommend interviews meant we were gone by 7AM and back home around 4:30PM and then staff meeting and baking for Transfer Meeting today (four sheet cakes, a cheesecake).

Sister Lee was explaining to Dad about a treacherous route on a mountain with a scary part but I didn’t know what she was talking about. Usually if Sister Lee has something to say to me (or vise versa) then Dad translates like he did here. But usually Sister Lee says so much and Dad responds, then she quickly says more so he doesn’t always get a chance to tell me what she just said. She’s funny and animated, fun to talk with.

This is the Thursday night before transfers (Transfer Meeting is on the following Monday). The outgoing missionaries share a brief testimony at Transfer Meeting, which is attended by most of the missionaries in our mission. This may be the last time missionaries get to see each other, ever (as someKorean missionaries most likely will never go to America, and if an American missionary is like Dad they most likely will never come back to Korea) so most missionaries try to attend this meeting. You can see how busy/crazy sounding the office is when Dad and three assistants are calling missionaries with their new assignments of leadership, area, and companionships. Ben made a pan of cookie bars to share with the office missionaries (assistants and office elders) as they will be up for a few hours working on transfers.
